Child of the Gauls
04:38
|
|||
Back to the ages before Jesus Christ
When my people was white with a wild blonde hairstyle
They got wings on the helmets & jewelry of gold
They were brave and bold, & were called the Gauls
« 20/20 » the teacher gave me
I was proud and so was my whole family
I looked up to the sky to thank the Ancient Gods
I felt brave and bold, I was a child of the Gauls
Go Go Go, I’m a child of the Gauls
Growin’ up I’ve been often asked
About my origins & sometimes about my past
Now the colleagues at work they LOL
When I answer them that I come from the Gauls
But when it comes to arguing about democracy
And improving parity and equality
I’m told: “If I ain’t happy I can go back home”
What else can I say: « Well lead me to the Gaul »
Go Go Go, I’m a child of the Gauls
Walking down the streets is such a pleasant thing,
You can meet your friends, or sometimes the police
Looking for the thugs and asking « - Your passeport Miss!
Don’t hang out too late if you wanna stay free »
Wanting to debate about what means a thug
I say « - You can arrest me and take me to Rome
Because I belong to a nation of rebels
As should everyone who claims to be a Gaul »
Go Go Go, I’m a child of the Gauls
Coming out of jail, I look around me,
To find a place to sit and just soak up the sun
When someone yells for me & says he works for the press:
« Are you the one the people call, the last of the Gauls? »
« I heard about your story & got a great great deal!
My editor wants me to write your biography! »
I say « I’ll do it myself, I’ve already a nom de plume
From now on you can call me Charlène De Gaulle»

Paper Chains
05:38
|
|||
Paper chain, Paper chain, Paper chain,...
Sitting in your car,
you’d like to cuff me, you’d like to cuff me
Whistling at every skirt passing by.
you’d like to cuff me, huh?
but all you got is nothing but paper chains.
When I was in school
You gave me a necklace
You gave me necklace
But now you’re mistaking the jewel
for a dog leash.
A dog leash?
That’s nothing but paper chains.
Didn’t your mama lay out lunch for ya?
Or was that not good enough?
Didn’t she soothe ya, when afraid of the night,
You were calling her out?
If you don’t like my clothes
Cos’ that’s too short
Or that’s too long
You can make me dress up in yours
You can try
But I will rip it up like a paper chain
Didn’t your mama lay out lunch for ya?
Or was that not good enough?
Didn’t she soothe ya, when afraid of the night,
You were calling her out?

Nature Flavored World
00:52
|
|||
It was pitch black outside.
And there was this store,
the one that is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The neon sign was shining very bright.
It was written « Life ». Though the « F » was blinking.
I walked in, and asked the seller my way home,
But he just smiled instead.
As I was roaming through the shelves,
I saw a wonderful big bag of pristine white sweets.
I wanted it so much.
But just right next, there was another one, even more beautiful,
With multicolored candies inside.
I couldn’t resist,
I opened the bag.
And that was it.

Sailboats on the Pond
03:54
|
|||
In the Gardens, there’s a pond big and round as the Earth,
And in the pond, as in the ocean the little sailboards sail;
Anchors Aweigh! Farewell my friends!
Today’s the Day that never ends
(Chorus) Sail away You little sailboat of mine
To the memory of my unsung heroes
Gone over the seas for putting new roots down
Now it Seems so near and yet so far
A kid is crying and complaining. Ain’t got the flag that he wants
His daddy’s sorry, tries to soothe him, saying « your time will come »
Back to your posts! Keep Up the pace!
Coast to coast, you’re in the race
(Chorus) Sail away You little sailboat of mine
To the memory of my unsung heroes
Gone over the seas for putting new roots down
Now it Seems so near and yet so far
In the middle, stuck is the boat, you can’t reach from the shore
« That’s enough », tells the father, « Never mind, let’s (just) go home. »
Anchors Aweigh! Farewell my friends!
Today’s the Day that never ends
(Chorus) Sail away You little sailboat of mine
To the memory of my unsung heroes
Gone over the seas for putting new roots down
Now it Seems so near and yet so farSail

In the fringe of the city
You came askin for me moccasin.
I Said « Good. For two moons
You go walkin' wi' me moccasin .
From the villa to the hut, (hot)
Be a good and brave pilgrim.
Wizdom will lead you up
To its (pas de H)almighty kingdom.
Lace up the shoes
They should fit you
Lace up the shoes
Go chase the truth. “
(chorus)
You were born in a land where you learned about love
Is there anything more ? Is there something more to know ?
Sophisticated indigenous people.
The two moons, they wax and wane,
And I'm waiting for me mocassin.
The third moon, I am gettin'
That you took off wi' me mocassin.
-Sorry that I'had to leave
And I'm much obliged to you.
And meaning no ingratitude,
I wanna thank you for the gift.
So let me offer you
My humble opinion,
That what you call wisdom
Is just a point of view.
(chorus)
You were born in a land where you learned about love
Is there anything more ? Is there something more to know ?
Sophisticated indigenous people.
Sophisticated indigenous people.

My Island Home
03:27
|
|||
Ain’t no ocean but in your mind
In the far drone of the cars
Ain’t no sand and ain’t no beach
Only the dust that fills the street
But somehow when I look
To the folks of the block
I feel we’re living on
Our sort of island home
Ain’t no ocean to go across
Just say farewell, and just get lost
Ain’t any boat there on the shore
But a scratch and win at the corner store
No marooned, no marooned,
No marooned, no marooned...
Ain’t no ocean but in your mind
But everything will just be fine
And somehow when I look
To the folks of the block
I feel we’re living on
Our sort of island home

Lighter
03:04
|
|||
Faces stare at the ground
No one dares a word
How could this be lighter, lighter, lighter ?
This is beyond awkward
I got a joke, but not for now, no.
How could this be lighter, lighter, lighter ?
The cat gets up off the couch
Then jumps out the window
Hunting for something lighter, lighter, lighter.
If it’s quiet again
It wil shortly show up
If it’s not, then later, later, later
Getting lighter
Getting lighter
Getting lighter

Old Mirror
04:25
|
|||
Old mirror my mother gave to me
Old mirror standing on my vanity
How to make you spotless and not cloudy
My one and only precious relic?
Everyday I grab myself a rag
To wipe it down and make my mirror bright again
Old mirror my mother gave to me
Old mirror so hard to just see in
No matter how much I try to look pretty
Only the black stains you keep reflecting?
Everyday I do my best
To clean it up & to clear the spots away
Old mirror what do you expect from me?
Old mirror won’t you set me free?
No matter if I push up the lights
You give me back my darkest side
